In de Hugo de Vrieslaan bij de Pasteurstraat staat (eigenlijk ligt) een Horizontaalbeeld van Henk van Bennekum. Dit beeld uit 1987 fascineert mij al jaren. Als je er snel langs fietst en je op het beeld focust ontstaat er een soort film van een piramide die langzaam uit de grond omhoog komt. Ook is het een beeld met verwarrend perspectief: als je links van het beeld staat en er langs kijkt is het totaal anders dan vanaf de rechterkant. Een spannend beeld!

Al naar gelang de snelheid waarmee het beeld wordt gepasseerd ontstaat een schijnbare beweging door ritme, maat en verschuivingen van hoeken. Het werk gaar over het beleven van ruimtelijke indeling en de veranderingen die zich daarin voordoen.

In the Pasteurstraat stands (actually lays) Horizontaal Beeld by Hugo de Vries. This artwork from 1987 fascinates me since years. If you cycle along quickly and you focuse on the artwork a kind of film is created of a pyramid that slowly comes out of the ground. It is also an statue with a confusing perspective: if you stand at the leftside of the statue the perspective is totally different than standing at the rightside. An exciting artwork!
