Gomes: 'Het kunstwerk staat op een kruispunt van vijf werelden: De Baarsjes, Bos en Lommer, de Robert Scottbuurt, de stad Amsterdam en de A10: de stad uit, de wereld in'. 'De Robert Scottbuurt heeft niet zoveel kenmerkende gebouwen, behalve de, architectonische interessante, eerste betonnen kerk van Nederland, de St. Joseph kerk. De potkachel, met daarop de werelddelen verbeeld, is een symbool van samensmeltende culturen en warmte. Tegelijkertijd is het een medehanger van de Kolenkit, het markante gebouw (voormalig ‘Opstandingskerk’) dat midden in het stadsdeel staat en het oude en nieuwe Bos en Lommer met elkaar verbindt.'
Het idee voor dit kunstwerk aan de ingang van de Robert Scottbuurt is een burgerinitiatief uit 2005. Paul Gomes zag een reclamebord staan als hij de A10 afkwam en de wijk binnenreed. 'Ik vroeg mij af waarom daar niks leuks stond. Dat je aan komt rijden en denkt: fijn dat ik weer thuis ben. Als je hier de wijk in rijdt, vanaf de A10 via de Jan van Galenstraat, staat nergens aangegeven dat je in Bos en Lommer bent, terwijl stadsdeel De Baarsjes dat aan de overkant wel duidelijk maakt'.
De wijk is divers aan culturen en bebouwing. Aan de ene kant grenzen de huizen aan het Rembrandtpark, aan de ander kant aan een gracht en weer aan de andere zijde wonen mensen aan de drukke A10. Veel mensen beseffen niet dat ze deel uitmaken van dezelfde buurt. Gomes hoopte ook dat een kunstwerk aan de rand van de buurt de verbondenheid tussen de Robert Scottbuurtbewoners zou versterken.

In de groenstrook van de Jan van Galenstraat vlak voor de Ring staat het kunstwerk de ‘Potkachel'. In 2005 is gestart met het buurtinitiatief in de Robert Scottbuurt om een kunstwerk te realiseren bij de entree van de buurt. Het idee voor dit kunstwerk komt van initiatiefnemer Paul Gomes.
De opdracht aan de kunstenaars was: ontwerp een kunstwerk met als titel ‘home is where the heart is'. Een kunstwerk dat je het gevoel geeft dat het fijn is om weer thuis te zijn.

Deze potkachel met daarop alle werelddelen, symboliseert de gezellige smeltkroes van mensen in de buurt en is de baken van thuiskomst en vertrek uit de buurt, stadsdeel of stad. Ook is de ‘Potkachel' een ‘medehanger' van de grotere broer: de Kolenkit iets verderop in West. De ‘Potkachel' staat op het kruispunt van diverse werelden: twee buurten, twee stadsdelen, de centrale stad van Amsterdam en het rijk (de A10).

On the one hand, it limits the houses on Rembrandt park, on the other hand, on a canal and back on the other side live people on the busy A10. Many people do not realize that they are part of the same neighborhood. Gomes also hoped that a work of art on the edge of the neighborhood would strengthen the bond between the Robert Scott buurtbewoners.

In 2005 has launched the neighborhood initiative in the Robert Scott to be a work of art to realize at the entrance of the neighborhood. The idea for this work of art comes from initiator Paul Gomes.
