Maria Roosen maakt vooral objecten van glas en keramiek en installaties. Met deze materialen geeft zij uitdrukking aan thema's als lichamelijkheid, zinnelijkheid en identiteit. Roosen werkt geregeld met gekleurd, handgeblazen glas waarmee ze wulpse roze melkkannen, breekbare borsten of transparante bollen die doen denken aan lichaamsdelen zoals ogen en spermacellen maakt. Haar werk gaat over groei, over het ontstaansproces en het maken zelf, een figuurlijk zaaien en oogsten.
Ze voelt zich geen ideeën-kunstenaar, maar volgt een gevoel dat streng onderzocht moet worden en getoetst op de situatie (zowel wat betreft inhoud als betekenis) en materialen. Ze richt zich daarbij graag op zaken die zich tijdens het groei- of maakproces aandienen, omdat niet alles zich van tevoren laat bedenken.

Ik kijk altijd naar die ogen. Roosen is de 1e vrouw die de prijs voor de Nederlandse beeldhouwkunst won.
2 stalen rekken dragen een bonte verzameling grote en kleine 'ogen'. De 'ogen' zijn geënt op de geluksogen uit de Turkse cultuur. Roosen plaatste deze glazen bollen in opdracht bij het hoofdkantoor van Het oosten, om symbolisch het kwaad af te wenden en zo de bezoekers te beschermen.

2 steel shelves carry a motley collection of large and small ' eyes '. The ' eyes ' are grafted onto the geluksogen of Turkish culture. Rahman placed this glass balls in command at the headquarters of the East, to symbolically to avert evil and thus to protect the visitors.
