Samen met bewoners en ondernemers zijn stadsdeel Zuid, woningcorporatie Ymere en Combiwel sinds 2008 bezig om het Hercules Segherskwartier te verbeteren. De facelift van de onderdoorgang is de kroon op de vernieuwing.

Hans van Heeswijk Architecten is verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerp. Hij bedacht samen met lichtontwerpers.nl een lichtplan waardoor de onderdoorgang ruimer oogt. Zestien verlichte mupi’s met daarin de kunstwerken maken hier onderdeel van uit. Deze zorgen voor regelmaat en levendigheid in het geheel. Wyne van Veen en Tessa Posthuma de Boer hebben de opdracht opgepakt en op eigen wijze de ambachten in de Pijp in beeld gebracht.
