An realistic artwork
This artwork raises a lot of questions. What is represented? Why is chosen for this ugly, matte and gray surface? It reminds me of medieval sculptures, which became unrecognizable due to the weather. Or, is this the earth which is recently plowed? With Jacques-Charles Bataille we know for sure: we know that we don't know. We don't know what this artwork is representing, or is saying.
How dit you react when you saw the artwork? Did you feel disgust, curiosity, irritation? I felt some kind of reluctance: phoe, I don’t feel like trying my best for an unclear artwork.
What can we do with this emotion? Ik realise that Bataille by Jacques-Charles Delahaye is interesting, now I think it over and concentrate on my emotions. Is it not the case that we often experience confusion, ugliness, chaos? And this is what Bataille by Jacques-Charles Delahaye is inducing. That’s why Bataille is a realistic artwork to me.

Vertaling
Een realistisch kunstwerk
Dit kunstwerk roept veel vragen op. Welke voorstelling zien we?
