Drie dromedarissen wandelen rustig op de spoorbrug over de Ringvaart. Ze lopen zowel evenwijdig aan de verkeersstroom op de Wibautstraat als aan het spoor. Zij bewegen zich als drie donkere silhouetten langs de horizon richting het oosten. De dromedarissen wandelen in de desolate stenenwoestijn van het stedelijke landschap. Zijn deze ‘schepen van de woestijn’ een fata morgana of zijn ze echt?
De beelden van Iris Le Rütte lijken te zijn weggestapt uit een fantasiewereld. Ze belichamen heel letterlijk de metamorfose: ze zijn half dier, half mens, zoals een paard met mensenbenen, of half vrouw, half boom ('Daphne'). Maar ook minder letterlijk zoals in een mensfiguur met vleugels, die als een beschermengel zijn eigen schaduw omarmt. ‘Ze verlossen de beschouwer uit het corselet van alledag’.

Iris Le Rütte studeerde aan de Amsterdamse Academie voor Beeldende Vorming en de Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. Tijdens haar studie koos Le Rütte, tegen de destijds heersende mode van abstractie, zelfonderzoek en discussie, voor herkenbare vormen. Tezamen met onder anderen Henk Visch, Thom Puckey, Nicolas Dings en Tom Claassen behoort zij tot de groep kunstenaars die zich sterk maken voor de nieuwe figuratie, de wedergeboorte van de vertelling en het symbool in de beeldende kunst. Naast kleine sculpturen in brons, maakt Le Rütte monumentaal werk dat zich op diverse ,plaatsen in de openbare ruimte bevindt.
