Compared with other works
The flat concrete slab of East West Gate by Yuyu Yang (New York, picture 1, more information) is impervious. The shiny perfect round disk reflects the city with a small distortion. The disk is too large to fit into the circular recess in the concrete.
For me this is a ruthless work of art. The two elements refer somewhat to each other but seem to be unable to rapprochement.
This artwork is in great contrast with Family Group by Henry Moore. Here are circles, also. These circular parts reach out and embrace each other.
A circle can be closed and can numb. Spiraal II by Piet Killaars (Rotterdam, picture 2, more information) plays with multiple circles and is thereby playful. The circles are open and also create an open circle.
Still, Spiraal II does not say much to me. Perhaps Piet Killaars wants to say something about the fun that technique brings. But this does not come out.
In that respect it resembles to Untitled by Wicher Meursing. Also here with round shapes playing together but there is no reference to something concrete. They remain sympathic circles without much sensitivity.
The circles that inward and go outside at Untitled by Wicher Meursing (Amsterdam, picture 3, more information), are sympathetic. But the artwork does not say so much more.
Perhaps Untitled would be a kind of park bench. Maybe this is a bench of sensitively places parts of machines.
The shiny and cold material repels me al little. What would happen if natural stone was chosen, such as with Swire Properties? Then you would have a desire to get close, to view the material and feel it. Maybe you would even sit down, when it happens to be made of a nice material.

The large round shape of Abract Sculpture Cynthia Sah (Hong Kong, picture 4, more information) changes into a small curl. This form is clearly visible while it is made of white marble with small color differences.
An extremely simple form raises many different emotions; of peace, warmth, gentleness, harmony, control, essence. Depending on which location the artwork is standing, it can call for gentle warmth but also for peaceful purity.
Abstract Sculpture is a good source of inspiration. It would, for example, suggest to add a natural material or elegant shape to East West Gate to give more sensitivity.
Family of Ubbo Scheffers (Amsterdam, picture 5, more information) is a funny artwork. Everything is made of cylinders and balls. A woman with a little hat, a girl with a tube skirt and a small kit are standing close to each other. A couple in embrace and a child are apart.
This work of art proves that art can be funny. Maybe it’s a little too much. Frankly, I find for instance Spiraal II funny enough as an artwork.
Henry Moore is with Family Group (Shanghai, picture 6, more information) capable to express emotions with abstract forms. The man embraces the child and the woman makes contact.
It looks like the legs are made out of wood. I think Henry Moore would like to say that the familiy is a basis.
The naturalness can be a good imput to Familie by Ubbo Scheffer. This would make this artwork more layered.

Vergelijking met andere werken
De gladde betonnen plaat van East West Gate van Yuyu Yang (New York, afbeelding 1,meer informatie) is ondoordringbaar. De glimmende perfecte ronde schijf weerspiegelt de stad met een kleine vervorming. De schijf is te groot om te kunnen passen in de cirkelvormige uitsparing in de beton.
Voor mij is dit een meedogenloos kunstwerk. De twee elementen verwijzen enigszins naar elkaar maar lijken niet in staat tot toenadering.
Dit kunstwerk staat in groot contrast met Family Group van Henry Moore. Ook hier zijn cirkels gebruikt. De cirkelvormige onderdelen reiken en omarmen elkaar.

Het glimmende en koude materiaal stoot mij een beetje af. Wat zou er gebeuren als gekozen zou zijn voor natuursteen, zoals bij Abstract Sculpture? Dan zou je de neiging hebben om dichtbij te komen, het materiaal te bekijken en te voelen. Misschien zou je even gaan zitten, als het een prettig materiaal blijkt te zijn.
Een grote ronde vorm gaat bij Abstract Sculpture van Cynthia Swire (Hong Kong, afbeelding 4,meer informatie) over naar een kleine krul. Deze vorm is goed zichtbaar terwijl het gemaakt is uit witte marmer met kleine kleurverschillen.
Een uiterst simpele vorm roept veel verschillende emoties op; van rust, warmte, zachtheid, harmonie, beheersing, essentie. Afhankelijk van de locatie kan het kunstwerk oproepen tot zachte warmte maar ook tot vredelievende puurheid.

Dit kunstwerk bewijst dat kunst grappig kan zijn. Misschien is het wel iets over de top. Eerlijk gezegd vind ik een kunstwerk als Spiraal II ook al behoorlijk grappig.

Haase begann 1951 ein Malerei-Studium an der Hochschule für bildende Künste in Berlin, zuletzt alsMeisterschüler von Max Kaus. Seit 1958 war er freischaffender Bildhauer in Berlin, von 1965 bis 2012 mit eigenem Atelier in Berlin-Kladow. Seit 2003 lebte und arbeitete er auch noch auf einem kleinen Gutshof in Brüssow in der Uckermark.
