Rising to a height of 20 meters, right next to Macau's waterfront, this beautiful bronze statue combines western and Chinese styles, and has long become one of Macau's most recognized attractions. As its name denotes, the statue is dedicated to Kun Iam, the goddess of mercy in Chinese Buddhism, and at its foot there is a lotus-shaped dome that houses the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, where you can visit a small exhibition and get some educational literature about Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The tiny manmade island on which the statue stands is connected to the waterfront by a 60 mtrs. long causeway, and the centre is open daily (except Friday), 10 am - 6 pm. Entrance is free.

The Centre consists of two part s : the bronze Kun Iam Statue, measuring 20 metres in height, and the dome-shaped lotus base, which is 7 metres high, 19 metres in diameter and i s composed of sixteen petals. The Centre features 2 level s : the ground floor is a multi - function room, which also houses the souvenir counter. The second level is a basement, where a contemplation room and a small library are located.
