With Lama Lamina by Matthew Barney I see for the first time the size of the machines which deforeste our beautiful planet. And I can see a tree which is displayed on an artistic way.
With this artwork, deforestation is not an abstract concept any more; these are great machines, they work fast, they remove a forest completely. Do we want this?
A tree is a concrete object. A tree is alive, in a fragile habitat with birds and insects. Matthew Barney shows us a part of a literal tree, the white paint shows the vulnerability, the tree is boxed in a sort of trellis.
Matthew Barney is right. We don't want this.

Ontbossing is met dit kunstwerk geen abstract begrip meer; het zijn dergelijke grote machines, zij werken in een hoog tempo, zij verwijderen de bossen compleet. Willen wij dit?
