In the lobby of the Fifth Avenue building bearing this address is a little slice of meditative heaven. Simply called “Ceiling and Waterfall” by Isamu Noguchi, the installation stretches along the corridor, creating a sound, light and water experience akin to the soothing sounds of a relaxation tape.
The undulating metal waves mesh echo the sounds of the trickling water, which block out the annoying city sounds of traffic and honking outside, making a sound oasis in the middle of New York. This piece is one of Noguchi’s later works, which embraced mixed sound and meditative properties with installation.
