Two new sculptures by a city-born artist have made their way from Paris to set up home at Coventry’s Herbert Art Gallery. The first is a homage to Georges Bernanos, a French writer and soldier who fought in the First and Second World Wars and was greatly admired by Chattaway.
The second sculpture, which has not yet been put on public display at the gallery, is a large scale bronze female head for which Chattaway’s wife was the model.
William Chattaway was born in Coventry in 1927 and attended Coventry School of Art and Design.
