The Temple of Man, in which Paul Valery gave his name, is the"ocean" project, within the meaning of Romain Rolland, a place of meditation hosting public events, shows and international conferences. Including library and cinema, it was developed in collaboration with architects Taillens, Bigot and Laprade and has not been realized. Introduced in 1925 at the exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, it was envisaged in 1932 to extend the axis of the Champs-Elysees between the Porte Maillot and La Defense. The project will be constantly worked until 1950.
Two monumental gates, the Gate of Science and Porte de Psyche, open on the statues of the Sons of Cain in the middle of a framed square of two hundred meters of Prometheus Wall, Wall Religion Wall of Legends Wall of Hymns, each eight meters high and decorated with bas-reliefs representing the great figures of science, philosophy, heroism, poetry.
The Gate of Science is now visible at the entrance of the new Faculty of Medicine of Paris, 45 rue des Saints-Peres and the group of Sons of Cain Tuileries. The Hymn to the Dawn, visible at the Museum Thirty Years', was intended at the Wall of Hymns.
"The central idea which dominates all my production, it is the influence of the Temple to which all the work is, and that projects its light on it. Any idea, as abstract as it is, is thinking sculpturally."
