A clear aesthetics and meaning
A classic column is covered with colored panels and a chrome-plated apple. This artwork stands out for the colors and the shiny material.
During walking around the column and the panels, the colors yellow and blue, red and green are mixed in different combinations. The pillar with panels form a pedestal. Making important is what a pedestal does.
The chrome reflects the viewer on the apple. The reflection of the shank on the dome of the apple is hardly visible. The globe is engraved on the apple; the apple is a symbol of our world that feeds us. What would be the meaning of a shiny apple? A shiny object makes me think of a mirror that confronts us with ourselves. A shiny object can also draw your attention to something in our surroundings. I see a different effect in the apple of Franck Scurti; here the viewer and the apple are in touch with each other.
Qu Atrieme Pomme by Franck Scurti has a clear aesthetics and meaning: our earth is important and we are related to it. I have the feeling that the artwork could have more nuance and controversy.

By Theo, www.artatsite.com

www.wikipedia.org:

The Fourth Apple is the work of French artist Franck Scurti located in Paris, France. This is a sculpture of a monumental steel apple, inaugurated in 2011 in honor of the philosopher Charles Fourier.
The work is an apple-shaped sculpture, polished steel, engraved with a map of the world.
The apple is on a stone pedestal, a remnant of a monument originally supporting a statue of Charles Fourier melted in 1942. The pedestal is surrounded by four vertical glass panels, translucent and colored.
In 1899, a monument to Charles Fourier, the sculptor Emile Derre, was inaugurated at the current location. The bronze statue was dismantled and sent to melting by the Vichy regime in 1942. The stone pedestal is not destroyed and remains unoccupied.
In March 1969, a situationist group settles there without authorization a plaster replica of the statue inspired by the work of Derre. This statue was removed a few days later by the prefecture.
In April 2007, the group moved Airborne, again without authorization, a work on the pedesta:<br> recess number, illicit Installation work in urban areas. This is an empty glass booth, highlighting the absence of statue. A staircase allows passersby to access the cabins to temporarily fill the space.
In July 2007, the Paris City Hall, opposing this spontaneous installation, launching a competition to replace the old statue. The draft Franck Scruti is retained: it refers to the Fourth Apple, Charles Fouriers theory.

www.franckscurti.net:
Franck Scurti explains his creation:"My proposal for the design of a tribute to Charles Fourier combines the image of the apple as a catalyst of universal attraction principle to that of the world map as a principle of organization and planning of the world."
This is an apple that Fourier gave the idea of his system. While returning from a country where the apples were worth under fourteen percent, he went in a Paris restaurant where the apple was worth under fourteen."I was struck, he said, this price difference between countries with the same temperature, that I began to suspect a fundamental disorder in the industrial process, and hence arose the research that led to my discovery."
