This 1896 marble sculpture by Henri Vidal is entitled"Cain venant de tuer son frere Abel" or"Cain coming from having killed his brother Abel". It depicts Cain naked and in apparent agony with his right hand covering his face. The figure is propped awkwardly on a pillar of some sort.
Cain and Abel were of course the first sons of the first couple, Adam and Eve in the Bible's Book of Genesis. Cain killed Abel after having God reject his sacrifices but accepting Abel's. The brothers are also mentioned in the Koran.
