I have never seen an artwork like this.
The rectangular shape is solid and static. The object has a sturdy protective skin. The skin is silky shining and with straigth lines. With this beautiful enclosure, it seems like something precious is protected.
Until sofar I can interact with this beautiful artwork. I am longing to see a clue of the preciousness on the inside. The artwork seems like a safe, but I cannot open it.
Other elements I find intriguing but I do not understand them. What are the shiny bars in the skin? Could this be keys to open the safe?
Why does it seem that Shining Wall is thrusted in the corner and is accepting a modest location? Maybe that’s why the object is shiny and huge. Maybe it would be mat and small when it was placed in a public space.
If this artwork was named "No Title", I had understood that the artist wouldn’t explain what the artwork is about. But I think that Kikuma Mochizuki wouldn’t give even this clearity. Because of the name "Shining Wall" one could accept a trivial meaning of this artwork. And thereby Kikuma Mochizu leaves us again with questions.

Een kunstwerk als dit, heb ik nog nooit gezien.
De rechthoekige vorm is massief en statisch. Het voorwerp heeft een stevige beschermende huid. De huid is zijdeglans en met strakke lijnen. Met deze mooie omhulling lijkt of het bescherming biedt aan iets kostbaars.
Tot zover kan ik iets met dit fraaie kunstwerk. Ik verlang ernaar om iets van de kostbaarheid te zien dat zich binnen bevindt. Het lijkt een kluis, maar ik kan het niet openen.
Andere elementen vind ik intrigerend, maar snap ik niet. Wat zijn de glimmende staven in de huid? Zouden dit sleutels zijn om de kluis te openen?
Waarom lijkt Shining Wallw in de hoek te zijn gedrukt en neemt het genoegen met een bescheiden plek? Misschien is het voorwerp juist daarom zo glimmend en groot. Misschien zou het mat en klein worden als het midden in de openbare ruimte geplaatst zou worden.
Als dit kunstwerk 'Geen Titel' had geheten, had ik begrepen dat de kunstenaar niet wil uitleggen wat het kunstwerk zeggen wil. Maar ik denk dat Kikuma Mochizuki ook niet deze duidelijkheid wil geven. Door het kunstwerk 'Shining Wall' te noemen kan er genoegen worden genomen met een triviale betekenis van dit kunstwerk. En daardoor laat Kikuma Mochizu ons opnieuw zitten met vragen.
