Kapkar LB2-SV is a crazy and an obvious artwork. Studio Frank Havermans is playing with acceptance and irritation.
Nobody questions radio-tower-grey and traffic-sign-yellow. Therefore, there is no irritation and there is full acceptance with this bizarre form.
The annoying of Kapkar LB2-TOS is found in the unrecognizable form and the indistinct function, while there is a clear structure. Irritating is the intrusive and striking design.
This is an instructive artwork. Make use of familiar elements (it are the colors with this artwork) if you want to share something crazy, difficult or painful. There will be no irritation and resistance.

Niemand kijkt vreemd op van zendmast-grijs en verkeersbord-geel. Daarom roept deze bizarre vorm geen irritatie op en is dit geheel acceptabel.
Het irritante van Kapkar LB2-SV zit hem in de onherkenbare vorm en onduidelijke functie terwijl de constructie duidelijk is. Het ergerlijke zit hem in de opdringerige en de opvallende vorm.
Dit is een leerzaam kunstwerk. Maak gebruik van herkenbare elementen (bij dit kunstwerk zijn dat de kleuren) als je iets geks, moeilijks of pijnlijks wilt vertellen. Er zal geen irritatie of weerstand zijn.

The location for a new work of art in Leeuwarden is the existing Stephenson viaduct, which as part of the new 'De Haak om Leeuwarden' ring road has been renovated and expanded over the track of the De Zwette industrial estate. In this case you walk, cycle or drive over the viaduct named after George Stephenson, or underneath it. With this artwork I decide to give a contemporary addition and an extra dimension to the name giver.

The three elements that informed this design were: the mine lamp, the desire for a constructive challenge, and the space found between the deck of the viaduct and the road, below. From these findings, came a new beacon of light.
'To make the location more challenging,' Frank Havermans says, 'I designed a new sheet pile branch. this disk disconnects from the viaduct but is connected to it. the light beacon clamps itself on top of this disk, a bird on a shouldens four meters lower against it. this is the center of gravity in the construction.'

Het lichtbaken KAPKAR/LB2-SV geeft een extra laag aan de locatie waar het zich bevindt, gebaseerd op de technisch uitvinder George Stephenson, de naamgever van het viaduct. Precies 200 jaar later is zijn uitvinding van de veilige mijnlamp input voor het lichtbaken dat een kennislaag toevoegt en een appél doet op de verbeelding.

Frank Havermans (Breda, 1967) is een Nederlands beeldend kunstenaar.
Havermans studeerde architectonische vormgeving aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten Sint-Joost te Breda. Zijn afstudeerproject werd in 1993 bekroond met de publieksprijs van de beroepsvereniging Nederlandse interieurarchitecten (BNI). In 1996 en in 2006 won hij de houtarchitectuurprijs. Zijn werk was onder meer buiten Nederland te zien op de 7e Architectuurbiënnale in São Paulo. Deze inzending van het Nederlands Architectuurinstituut geti"Tangible Traces - Dutch Architecture and Design in the making" was daarna ook te zien in Hongkong, Wenen, Jakarta en in Arnhem. In Nederland werd zijn werk verder onder meer geëxposeerd in het Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, in Fort Asperen en in het Stedelijk Museum 's-Hertogenbosch.
Havermans is werkzaam als installatiekunstenaar. Hij ontwerpt diverse architectonische installaties. In zijn TOFUD-project werkt hij zijn ideeën over complexe processen binnen de stadsontwikkeling uit. In 2010 werd hij in de gelegenheid gesteld om al"Artists in Residence" zijn ideeën op de toekomstige ontwikkeling van de Amsterdamse Zuidas vorm te geven.
