Quelques elements biographiques d’abord : Paul Belmondo naît a Alger en 1898. a partir de 1913, il suit les cours d’architecture de l'ecole des beaux-arts de la ville et en parallele des cours de modelage. Le jeune homme est mobilise au front en 1917-18. Trois ans apres la fin de la Premiere Guerre mondiale, il obtient une bourse lui permettant de poursuivre ses etudes de l'autre cote de la Mediterranee. a Paris, il entre dans l'atelier de Jean Boucher et se fait remarquer par le sculpteur Charles Despiau. En 1926, laureat d’un premier prix artistique d’envergure, il voyage et decouvre l'Italie et la Grece ainsi que la statuaire antique. Il epouse en 1930 Madeleine, trois enfants naîtront de son union : Alain, Jean-Paul et Muriel. Dans ces annees, il reçoit plusieurs commandes importantes de la ville d’Alger, il realise Eve et Adam (1932).
1937 : Paul Belmondo participe a l'exposition internationale de Paris avec plusieurs sculptures. Deux ans plus tard il collabore a la realisation du pavillon de France a l'exposition universelle de New-York. Il est mobilise une seconde fois pendant la guerre entre 1939 et 1941. Il collabore dans les annees suivantes avec plusieurs decorateurs et artisans, et conçoit en 1947 pour la monnaie de Paris sa premiere medaille. a partir de 1952 Paul Belmondo enseigne le dessin a l'ecole nationale des beaux-arts de Paris. La consecration arrive huit annees plus tard lorsqu’il est reçu a l'Academie. 1964 : il realise la copie de La danse de Carpeaux pour l'opera Garnier, l'original entre lui au musee d’Orsay. Dans ses dernieres annees, l'artiste recevra les honneurs de l'etat parmi lesquels le titre de commandeur de la legion d’honneur. l'artiste deceda en 1982.

Some biographical elements first: Paul Belmondo was born in Algiers in 1898. From 1913, he studied architecture at the Ecole des beaux-arts in the city and in parallel modeling course. In Paris, he entered the workshop of Jean Boucher and was noticed by the sculptor Charles Despiau. In 1926, winner of a first major art prize, he travels and discovers Italy and Greece as well as antique statuary. He married Madeleine in 1930, three children were born of their union: Alain, Jean-Paul and Muriel. In these years he received several major orders for the city of Algiers, he made Adam and Eve (1932).
1937 Paul Belmondo part in the international exhibition in Paris with several sculptures. Two years later he contributed to the realization of the France Pavilion at the New York World Exhibition. He was mobilized again during the war between 1939 and 1941. He worked in the following years with several decorators and artisans, and design in 1947 for the currency of Paris her first medal. From 1952 Paul Belmondo teaches drawing at the National School of Fine Arts of Paris. The consecration arrives eight years later when received at the Academy. 1964 he produced a copy of Carpeaux The dance to the Opera Garnier, the original between him Orsay museum.
